JEE Advanced Exam is conducted by the seven Zonal Coordinating IITs under the guidance of the Joint Admission Board.
18,160 seats available across all 23 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) .
Only candidates who qualify in JEE Main are eligible to appear for JEE Advanced.
The number of candidates allowed to appear in JEE Advanced is usually the top 2,50,000 rank holders from JEE Main.
In 2025, a total of 1,87,223 candidates signed up to take the JEE Advanced exam. Out of these, 1,80,422 participated in both papers of the exam. From this group, 54,378 students were successful and qualified for admission into the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).
A candidate can attempt JEE (Advanced) maximum of two times in two consecutive years.
JEE Advanced has two compulsory papers—Paper 1 and Paper 2—each 3 hours, held on the same day. Think of it as a 6-hour mental marathon. You’ll need steady focus, smart pacing, and good energy management from start to finish.
Each paper tests Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics through a mix of objective, numerical, and comprehension-based questions. The exam tests candidates on their analytical thinking, problem-solving, and deep conceptual understanding.
The exam broadly covers the Class 11 and 12 Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics syllabus.
Negative marking is applicable in certain sections of the exam.
The medium of the exam is English and Hindi.
Admission to the IITs and a few other prestigious institutes is based on JEE Advanced rank and seat allocation through JoSAA counseling.

Olympiad channels for admission to IIT: Official Link

INMO (Maths) – Class 9–12, organised by HBCSE/NBHM; IIT Kanpur, Bombay, Madras give special admission calls (interview usually needed).
INPhO (Physics) – Class 10–12, by IAPT + HBCSE; IIT Gandhinagar & others consider OCSC qualifiers, JEE/Interview may still apply.
INChO (Chemistry) – Class 10–12, by IAPT + HBCSE; IITs value OCSC attendees, JEE mostly still required.
INBO (Biology) – Class 10–12, by HBCSE; IIT Kanpur & Madras consider Bio-sciences seats, not automatic admission.
INOI (Informatics) – Class 9–12, by IARCS; IIT Kanpur, Gandhinagar, Madras consider IOITC qualifiers for CSE, usually with extra tests/interviews.
